Welcome to the Greater New Haven Branch NAACP website. As President of the Branch and long standing First Vice President, it is with great pleasure that I extend my sincere greetings to all of you.

Our goals are to become more proactive in the fight for racial equality and social justice. We are embarking upon a broader, yet clearly focused mission to serve the needs of those living in Greater New Haven. Our passion, vision and message will continue to portray our Branch as the strong civil rights organization it has been for over ninety years. Together, we will accomplish great things as we move forward.





NAACP STRATEGIC PLANNING


Our Strategic Planning initiative invites and encourages your input into building our plan. At this point in time,we would appreciate members' thoughts on the following questions:

Our collective goals are to develop impactful strategic for the best plan for the "Greater New Haven NAACP Branch" and to provide members and others with every opportunity to joint in our efforts process.

The next strategic planning process in which members are invited to attend will be at the office on 545 Whalley Ave at 7:00 p.m. Please confirm via or web page or e-mail address to assure a accurate count of members attending that meeting since space is limited at the office. The first meeting of this group took place on the 15th at the monthly membership meeting. Your collective input will be reviewed by the Executive Board; the goals and objectives established based on resources and time line imperatives for the Greater New Haven Branch.

The Year in Review

Framework: A four minute video or PowerPoint showing the events in which the Branch participated, encouraged or advocated for the good of its constituents i.e. Press Conferences, Meetings with the ADL, Latino Community, Haitian Relief Fund, New Haven Black Firefighters.

Guidelines/Elements:Use the three pillars of Economic Development, Education and Health as the focal points of accomplishments:
o Economic Development – Economic Summit
o Education – Les Turner Scholarship, Quinnipiac College Letter, Health & Science Career Fair
o Health – Local Health Fair, Meeting with National Leadership (at Convention)

Intro: New Office Location --- December 1, 2008
1. Dialogue at Gateway Community College March 2009
2. 18th Annual Health Fair – Took place at the New Haven Citywide Fieldhouse, 3rd Annual Health & Science Career Fair May 2009
3. Gala – Acknowledgement of the National Centennial. In response the local Branch engaged in this event by recognizing our living legends in a memorable celebration that coincided with activities across the country. May 2009
4. Les Turner Memorial Golf Tournament – Inaugural event raised funds for scholarship in honor of a local academic icon June 2009
5. Executive Committee Retreat – This was the first in many planned discussions of the E Board for planning the current and future course of the Branch. June 2009
6. NAACP National Convention – The 100 anniversary event brought the highest ranking minorities and non minorities together to reflect, relate and discuss today’s NAACP and its relevance. July 2009
7. 2009 Economic Summit – The second annual summit brought in speakers with portfolios that collectively exceeded $1 billion to discuss economic empowerment and provide direction for greater New Haven minority entrepreneurs, those looking to start business as well as those in the business of money management. October 2009
8. One Year Celebration of The Office – Our new above ground location was showcased through an event attended by local dignitaries, politicians, community based leadership and our community partners. December 2009.

The NAACP Mission

The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.

Vision Statement

The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination.

Objectives

The following statement of objectives is found on the first page of the NAACP Constitution — the principal objectives of the Association shall be to:

Ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens.
Achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the United States.
Remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes.
Seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights.
Inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination.
Educate persons as to their constitutional rights and to take all lawful action to secure the exercise thereof, and to take any other lawful action in furtherance of these objectives, consistent with the NAACP's Articles of Incorporation and this Constitution.
