NAACP Aids Awareness Ball
Date: February 23, 2008 (7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.)

Dear Students and Faculty Members of SCSU

It is my pleasure to cordially invite you to an event that will provide you with an opportunity to support a good cause while enjoying a night of fun. The "Aids Awareness Ball-A Red Carpet Affair" is being held in efforts to raise money as well as awareness about H.I.V.-Aids. There will be a professional set-up to capture the night in memories through photography. Photos will be available for those in attendance from 7:00-7:45pm. The event is taking place from 7:00 pm until 1:00 am in the ballroom on February 23, 2008. Food will be served at 8:30 p.m. and the cost of the dinner will be covered in the ticket prices. The ticket prices for Southern Students are $10 for an individual and $15 for couples.

In addition to Southern ticket prices, other people who are interested and do not attend Southern will be charged $12 for an individual ticket price and $20 for a couple. This is a semi formal affair so, please dress to impress. The organization also asks that everyone in attendance comes presenting themselves with respect and decency to avoid anything that could negatively affect a night that is being held to benefit others. Please consider attending this event, and feel free to assist with promoting the ball and any preparation that interests you. Thank you for your time, and I hope that you will come out, enjoy yourselves and contribute to fighting a disease that gets in the ring with all types of victims.

Please contact our advisor, Dawn Stanton-Holmes at (203) 392-5501 or holmesd3@southernct.edu, for more information. With Great Appreciation, Sharieka Breeden -1st Vice President-NAACP

New Haven Chorale 2007-2008 Season

Presents: Lift Every Voice!
Location: Woolsey Hall
Sunday, February 24, 2008
Time: 4:30 p.m.

The New Haven Chorale welcomes The Heritage Chorale and guest actors from the Yale School of Drama to an uplifting observance of Black History Month, celebrating African American contributions to the musical and literary arts.

In this unique performance event, dramatic readings and energetic vocal performances will present great African American expressions of the human spirit’s universal aspiration for freedom and justice. Texts by Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Maya Angelou, and others will join moving spirituals, rollicking gospel, and striking contemporary compositions, including audience sing-along opportunities.

Our special guest soloist will be tenor Albert Lee, a 1994 Chorale Student Singer and New Haven native, now an award-winning performer in opera and on the concert stage where critics have hailed him as a rising star who “sings with great style and musicality.”

A pre-concert lecture will be offered at 3:15 P.M. by Jonathan Holloway, distinguished author, Master of Yale’s Calhoun College, and Yale professor of History and of American and African American Studies, with a free-will donation to benefit the New Haven chapter of the NAACP's Scholarship Fund (lecture location TBA).

The Chorale is also hosting a private performance and workshop later in the week by tenor soloist Albert Lee for the students of New Haven’s St. Martin De Porres School, where the charismatic Mr. Lee will sing with students and share his inspiring story of the difference that classical music has made in his own life.

Please join us in this exciting collaboration at Yale's Woolsey Hall at the corner of College and Grove Streets in New Haven. Students attend New Haven Chorale concerts free with I.D.

Tickets (seniors $15, adults $20, and prime seating $35) are available at the door, and by calling 203-776-SONG, and at the following locations: Foundry Music in New Haven, Books and Co. in Hamden, Sound Runner in Branford, Breakwater Books in Guilford, and R.J. Julia’s in Madison. Please visit www.newhavenchorale.org
