Jim Rawlings
James E. Rawlings is the President of the Greater New Haven Branch of the NACCP, the largest branch in New England. Additionally Mr. Rawlings is the Chair of the CT State Conference of Branches Health Committee which in 2008 received the National Montague Cobb Award from the NAACP for being the best State Health committee in the nation. Mr. Rawlings has previously served as a Trustee of the National Board of the NAACP and has also served on the National Health Committee.
Under Mr. Rawlings’ leadership the Greater New Haven Branch host the largest and longest standing Health and Career Fair in New England and the longest standing annual Economic Summit of any branch in New England as well as the largest Annual Freedom Fund Dinner. The local branch works closely with four local College Chapters and has a very active youth council. Other strong local affiliations are with the local Firebirds, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA) – CT Chapter.
Mr. Rawlings’ involvement in national, state and local associations and boards has been very extensive having served as Treasurer of the National Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA), Chairman of the Connecticut Commission on Health Equity, Commissioner of CT Multicultural Advisory Board, Chair of the AIDS Interfaith Network and Vice Chair of Leeway, the first AIDS Hospice in America. He also has served previously on the IRB of Pfizer in New Haven and the IRB Board at the Yale School of Medicine. Other leadership roles Mr. Rawlings currently serves are Chair of the SCDAA – Connecticut Chapter and Chair of the Hannah Gray Development, the owners and operators of the Ella B. Scantlbury Home in New Haven. He is also the Chair of the Greater New Haven Partnership for a Healthy Community.
Mr. Rawlings is well published with a recent article in the American Journal, of Preventative Medicine. Additionally he has presented internationally on the subject of AIDS research in such countries as Durban South Africa, Geneva Switzerland and Barcelona Spain. Some of the awards and recognitions Mr. Rawlings has received are Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award from the Greater New Haven NAACP, the Yale School of Medicine Department of Epidemiology & Public Health Community Leadership Award. He was also awarded the National Association for Community Leadership Civic Award as one of 37 men chosen nationally, the Nova Community Service Award from the American Hospital Association and the Community Service Award from the Connecticut Hospital Association. Mr. Rawlings also serves on the Tribal Council of the Seaconke Wampanoag Tribal Nation and is President of all tribal development efforts.
Mr. Rawlings has a BS from the University of Rhode Island and a Master in Public Health from Yale University and currently is a Clinical Instructor at the Yale School of Public Health.
